Marlus J. Quam, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Marlus Jean Freitag was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Austin to Elmer and Fern (Lewis) Freitag. After attending Austin Public Schools, she worked at Land O’Lakes in Albert Lea. On Jan. 24, 1947, Marlus was united in marriage to Lester Quam in Austin. The couple raised three children. Lester passed away in 2002. Marlus’ favorite pastime was worrying about her kids, often asking “where’s your jacket?” She was an excellent cook, a people-watcher, and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Marlus and Lester enjoyed traveling in the motor home and visited Florida numerous times. She was a lifelong Austin resident. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.

Marlus is survived by her children David (Julie) Quam of Owatonna, Minnesota, Larry Quam of Austin, and Steve Quam of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her brother, Darwin (Lorraine) Freitag of Austin, sister-in-law Lorraine (Mrs. Lloyd) Freitag of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester Quam, her brother Lloyd Freitag, her grandson Duane in infancy, and two daughters-in-law, JoAnn Quam and Judy Quam.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Susan Li officiating.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday.  Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or recipient of donor’s choice.  Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.  Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
