Director of Buildings & Grounds

Austin Public Schools, ISD #492, is seeking a highly-qualified candidate for its Director of Buildings & Grounds

Position is full-time/year-round position. Applications will be accepted until April 21, 2017; however, the position will remain posted until filled.

Austin Public Schools is located in southeastern Minnesota in the community of Austin, MN, which is home to Hormel Foods Corporation. Austin is a very diverse community with a population of approximately 25,000.

The district has an enrollment in excess of 4,800 students, and consists of one early childhood school serving pre-K, one all day-every day kindergarten center, four elementary schools serving students in grades 1-4, one intermediate school serving grades 5-6, one middle school grades 7-8, one high school/area learning center combo grades 9-12.

The typical essential duties of the Director of Buildings & Grounds consists of, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures, and maintains a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
2. Oversees the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures for the department, or as directed by the Superintendent or Board.
3. Contacts vendors and contractors, evaluates the costs of custodial and maintenance supplies, equipment, capital improvements, specifications and services and purchases items as needed; receives board approval when required.
4. Administers and monitors the departmental budget including allocating resources and approving expenditures.
5. Administers the preventative maintenance programs.
6. Inspects and manages facilities, systems and contracted work for compliance with policies, procedures and specifications.
7. Develops, coordinates, and implements safety programs for the District.
8. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level, as required.

The minimum requirements for this position are as follows:
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or a field related to area of assignment and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience, including three years of supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. MN Boiler’s License and training certification for asbestos are desired.

Salary and benefits will be negotiated per contract, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range is approximately $65,000 – $97,000.
