State wrestling: Bain brings the pain to lock up 195-pound title

Area wrestlers had a big day at the Minnesota Class A state wrestling meet as five wrestlers placed and two ended up in title matches at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Saturday.
Christophor Bain, a GMLOS senior, won the state title at 195 pounds; Brenn Olson, a GMLOS senior, took second at 138; Jackson Hale, a GMLOS sophomore took third at 106; Mitchell Oswald, a junior for the Westfield Razorbacks, took third at 220; and Colton Krell, a freshman for Westfield, took fourth at 160.

Bain won the state title at 195 to cap off an unbeaten season when he beat Jacob Bennett of Zumbrota-Mazeppa 5-0. Bain pinned Jake Erckenbrack of New York Mills in the semifinals with a third period pin.
Bain finishes the season at 31-0.
Olson lost the title match at 138 when he lost 8-2 to Lane Heim of St. Charles. Olson beat Jacob Tvinnereim of Jackson County Central 11-6 in the semifinals and he finishes the season at 32-5.
Hale, who finishes the season at 38-7, took third place at 106 for when he beat Brett Willaby of Windom-Mountain Lake with a technical fall in the third period.
Hale had lost in the semifinals on 7-4 decision to Ashton Clark of Park Rapids and Hale won his wrestleback match with an 8-0 major decision over Landon Byer of Frazee.
Oswald beat Rory Drewes of Frazee 8-6 in the third place match at 220. Oswald won his wrestleback match with a 5-2 decision over Trenton Rogich of LeSueur-Henderson and Oswald lost 10-0 to Trenten Rogich in the semifinals.

Oswald finishes the season at 29-4.
Krell lost the third place match at 160 when he was pinned by Justin Dravis of Park Rapids in the first period. Krell lost 14-3 to Bailee O’Reilly in the semifinals and he won his wrestleback match 3-2 over Derek Krieger of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. Krell finished the season 32-6.
