The Packers made a late run, but it wasn’t enough.
The No. 6 seeded Austin girls basketball team had its season come to an end when it lost 63-51 to No. 3 Northfield in a Section 1AAA quarterfinal game on the road Wednesday.
After trailing by double digits early in the second half, the Packers (11-15 overall) pulled to within 51-50 when Abby Lewis hit a runner with 2:10 left. However, the Raiders closed out the game on a 12-1 run.
“Our girls played a tough game and I’m super proud of the effort we put forth,” Austin head coach Anna Meyer said. “We made huge strides this season. We’re going to miss our seniors and they played a big part in turning our program around.”
Austin jumped out to a 14-13 early on as Awenia Nywesh scored eight of her 17 points in that stretch, but the Raiders (21-6 overall) responded with an 18-5 run.
