Man sentenced in assault case

A 26-year-old Austin man accused of causing a man to have a head injury during a fight outside a local bar in 2016 has received five years of supervised probation in Mower County District Court.

Justin A. Carlson must also meet 22 conditions of the probation and perform 40 hours of community service within the next six months.

According to court records, Carlson was sentenced on a felony count of third-degree assault causing bodily injury, stemming from an incident on July 30. A fight between Carlson and another man ended with the man hitting his head on the ground. He eventually was taken by medical helicopter to Rochester for medical treatment.

Carlson claimed he was just defending himself  during the fight, but a nearby video camera showed that Carlson was allegedly aggressive toward the victim.
