Man faces DWI charges after vehicle jumps curb, hits tree

A 31-year-old Austin man faces charges of driving while intoxicated, giving a false name to a police officer and speeding after he allegedly lost control of his vehicle that jumped the curb and hit a tree on Hormel Century Parkway Saturday.

Roberto Hernandez-Zacarias is being held in the Mower County Jail awaiting formal charges.

According to Austin police and witness statements, Hernandez-Zacarias was driving westbound about 9:30 p.m. when his vehicle allegedly struck the curb, crossed the road, jumped the opposite curb and hit a tree. Neither he or his 20-year-old passenger were transported for medical treatment.

According to the passenger, who was not identified, Hernandez-Zacarias had to swerve to miss a wide-turning semi. Police say, according to the report, that it was clear that he was intoxicated.
