A man facing drug charges after a teen’s arrest earlier this month has pleaded not guilty to drug charges.

Gumdel Nygare Gilo, 19, pleaded not guilty to felony fifth-degree drug sale of marijuana in Mower County District Court Friday.

According to court records, Austin police seized a cell phone while executing a search warrant on the 500 block of Sixth Avenue Southeast early in March.

On that phone, detectives found messages from Gilo’s account that indicated he was selling drugs.

One message indicated he intended to sell $20 worth of marijuana to someone, and another message indicated he was selling Xanax.

Officers executed a search warrant on March 8 on the 400 block of Sixth Street Southwest.

Police found the following items: multiple bags with a total of 4.37 grams of marijuana, $1,263 in cash in two spots and several plastic bags with marijuana residue.

When a detective told Gilo he would likely be charged with selling marijuana and the cash would be seized, Gilo allegedly told the detective the cash was going to be used to get a juvenile in another court case an attorney.

Gilo was charged last April with six felony counts after police found 5.5 grams of marijuana, a bag of Alprazolam pills and a pistol in his car during a traffic stop.

In that case, the charges include: being a violent felon in possession of a firearm and fifth-degree drug possession; a gross misdemeanor for carrying a pistol without a permit; two misdemeanors: possessing over 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle and underage drinking and driving; and a petty misdemeanor for speeding at 42 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Gilo is next due in court on April 3.
