Hazel Heimer, 79

Hazel Heimer, 79, of Stacyville, Iowa, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Hazel was born Oct. 22, 1937, on the family farm near Stacyville, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Mueller) Michels. She graduated from Visitation High School in 1955. On April 27,1957, Hazel married Clement Heimer at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. She was a farm wife. She also worked at the Cue Inn, where she was later an owner, at the Motor Mart, and at the post office, all in Stacyville.

Hazel was a very active member of Visitation Catholic Church and was a member of Visitation Christian Women. Hazel bowled on the L.P. Gals team in the Stacyville Women’s Bowling League. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Shanghai, gardening, canning, bowling, polka music, and collecting bells. Hazel was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Saint Ansgar Saints, Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. She volunteered at the Stacyville Nursing Home, delivered Meals on Wheels, and would volunteer to drive anyone anywhere. Hazel especially enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Hazel is survived by her children, Marty (Beth) Heimer of Kasson, Minnesota, Sandy (Ed) Griffith of Osage, Iowa, and Keith (Lisa) Heimer of St. Ansgar, Iowa; grandchildren, Zach Heimer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacob Heimer of Ames, Iowa, Lucas Heimer of Kasson, Holly Adams of Ankeny, Iowa, Josh (Julie) Adams of Osage, Joe (Abby) Heimer of St. Ansgar, Tony Heimer of St. Ansgar, Sam Heimer of Waverly, Iowa, and Grace Heimer of St. Ansgar; Hazel’s first great-granddaughter that is on the way; sisters, Ethel Bissen of Stewartville, Minnesota, and Ruth Olson of Waterloo, Iowa; brother, Joseph “Pete” Michels of Osage; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert (Jeannette) Heimer of Minneapolis, Dennis (Karen) Heimer of Mazeppa, Minnesota, Mary Thome of Adams, Minnesota, Harry (Roma) Hemann of Osage, and Marita Michels of Adams; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clement Heimer in 1985; brothers, Wilmer “Bud” Michels and John “Jack” Michels; sister, Pat (Kenneth) Murdock; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John “Buddy” Bissen, Ben Thome, William Heimer, Robert (Mary Ann) Heimer, Melvin (Shirley) Heimer, Betty (Roger) Walsh, and Helen Hemann.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with Father Raymond Burkle and Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Burial will be at Visitation Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m.
