Packers take 2nd at state

MINNEAPOLIS — The Austin Packers took second to the DeLaSalle Islanders, losing 72-44 in the title game of the Class AAA Minnesota Boys State Basketball Tournament at the Target Center on Saturday.
It was the sixth straight title for the Islanders, and the Packers third second-place finish since 2013.
The Islanders jumped out to a double-digit lead early and led 31-23 at halftime before putting the Packers away in the second half.
Both Gach led Austin with 14 points, while Duoth Gach added 10. Kyle Oberbroeckling and Moses Issa each added five points, while Oman Oman and Pat Hagen scored four.
DeLaSalle’s Dominic Goanar Mar led all scorers with 28 points, and Gabe Kalscheur scored 20.
Marshall took third place by beating Columbia Heights 83-37 earlier on Saturday, while Fergus Falls won the consolation bracket by beating St. Thomas Academy 71-42.
