Clinton LaVerne Christianson, 96

Clinton LaVerne Christianson, 96, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Prairie Manor Care Center with family members at his side.

Clinton was born April 16, 1920, to Ingebret and Betsy (Egtvet) Christianson on the family farm in Udolpho Township, Mower County, as the youngest of 10 children.  Clinton attended Country School District 119 in Freeborn County. On Nov. 10, 1943, he was united in marriage to Adeline Kerling at St. Augustine Catholic Church Parsonage in Austin, Minnesota. In their younger years, they enjoyed roller skating and playing cards with friends.  The couple farmed together until 1998 when they sold the farmhouse and moved into Blooming Prairie. After retirement, they enjoyed casinos, country drives and many road trips with friends to various parts of the U.S. Clinton enjoyed talking with anyone about anything – especially farming. He was known for his unique sense of humor.

Clinton is survived by his spouse, Adeline, of Prairie Manor, Blooming Prairie; his daughters, Kathryn (James) Govostes of Sandy, Utah, Darlene Christianson of Blooming Prairie, and Marsha (John) O’Neil of Andover, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Nicole (Joaquin) Avila, Jenna Govostes, John O’Neil and Joseph O’Neil; four great-grandsons, Leevi Avila, Avery Avila, Joshua O’Neil and Jack O’Neil; sister in-law, Frieda (Raymond) Christianson of Blooming Prairie; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingebret and Betsy Christianson; and nine siblings, Leon Christianson, Berthel Christianson, Ruby Christianson, Irene Filley, Paul Christianson, Kenneth Christianson, Nordean Christianson, Borghild Detwiler and Raymond Christianson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin with Pastor Lindsay Stolen officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on  Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery, Austin.

Memorials can be directed to Prairie Manor Care Center, Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church or a recipient of the donor’s choice.
