Austin’s Erie knocked off; 5 area wrestlers advance to semifinals at state meet

Five area wrestlers guaranteed themselves a metal as they advanced to the semifinals at the Minnesota Class A state wrestling meet in Xcel Energy in St. Paul.
Christophor Bain, Brenn Olson and Jackson Hale of GMLOS all went 2-0 to move on and Colton Krell and Mitchell Oswald of Westfield went 2-0 to advance.
Hale, who is wrestling at 106, beat Brandon Funk and he topped Will Magaard of 7-0; Olson, who is wrestling at 138, beat Owen Novacek 8-5 and he beat Austin DeVlaeminck of Minneota 4-2; Krell, who is wrestling at 160, beat Logan Tesch with a first period pin and he edged out Toby Hintzman 5-4; Bain beat Logan Quam 9-4 and topped Jason Kasella 8-4; Oswald beat Jacob Bittmann at 220 with a third period pin and he topped Hunter Wilcowski 9-5.
Austin’s Jayden Erie lost his first match in a 17-1 tech. fall to Lincoln Shinn of Willmar at 160 and Erie did not receive wrestle back.
Ethan Arett of Westfield lost his first match to Taylor DeFrang 5-2 and he did not receive a wrestle back, Chris Romero of GMLOS lost his first match 9-3 to Canon Swanson and he did not receive of a wrestle back, Morgen Moreno lost his first match on a pin to Elijah Closs and he did not receive a wrestle back, and Trey Chatman lost his first match 8-4 to Devin Pries and he did not receive a wrestle back.
