Signe V. Pelinka, 99

Signe V. Pelinka, 99, of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Seaside Manor in Ormond Beach.

Signe Viola was born Dec. 19, 1917, in Newry Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, to Ole and Sophie (Thompson) Benson. Signe graduated with the class of 1936 from Blooming Prairie High School, and went on to attend Minneapolis School of Business. She worked for the Blooming Prairie Creamery as a bookkeeper/secretary until 1944. On Feb. 10, 1944, Signe was united in marriage to Hubert Pelinka at St. Columbanus Catholic Church parsonage in Blooming Prairie. Over the years, Signe baked and decorated so many beautiful wedding cakes and cakes for all occasions. She was also known for baking the most delicious lefse in the Blooming Prairie area. Signe was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie where she was active in the annual First Lutheran Lutefisk Dinner, and WELCA She was also a member of Blooming Prairie VFW Auxiliary and past president of the Blooming Prairie American Legion Auxiliary. Signe enjoyed sewing, cards, family gatherings, and traveling to visit family.

Signe is survived by her daughters, Joanne (Jim) Mackey of Mount Dora, Florida, Mary Sue Pelinka of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Lana (Scott) Dittrich of Owatonna, Minnesota; sons-in-law Tim Molacek and John Haithcock; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lou Benson of Minneapolis; nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hubert on July 10, 1982; daughters Carol and Connie; brothers and sisters-in-law Kenneth and Dorothy Benson, Orville and Ella Benson, and Herbert Benson; and sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Fred Robinson, Inez and Sam Harms, and Thelma and Charles Goettling.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with the Rev. Lindsay Stolen officiating. Interment will be in the St. Columbanus Church Cemetery in Blooming Prairie. Visitation will be held on Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church.
