Robert D. Johnson, 86, of Glenville, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at Prairie Senior Cottages in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Robert Dean Johnson was born Oct. 1, 1930, in Northwood, Iowa, the son of George and Alice (Sime) Johnson. He grew up in the Myrtle, Minnesota, area, graduating from Albert Lea High School. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for four years. On Jan. 14, 1952, Bob married Marvel Hansen in Sargeant, Minnesota. He was a rural letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service and a farmer. Bob was a member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, the Rural Letter Carriers Association, and a 60-year member of American Legion Post 264. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, riding horses, whist, cribbage, and other card games, snowmobiling, bowling, and spending time with family, especially the grand and great-grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marvel of Glenville; children, Cindi (Dwight) Muth of Emmons, Dean Johnson and friend Shirley Carlson of Kiester, Minnesota, Craig (Deb) Johnson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Brad (Diane) Johnson of Burnsville, Minnesota, Jodi (Mike) Benson of West Concord, Minnesota, David (Sandy) Johnson of Glenville, Patti Johnson and friend Mark Wright of West Concord; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, DeVerne “Bud” Johnson of Northwood; sisters-in-law, Janet Goodrich and Donna Hansen; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Gene Banken; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Juhl and Virginia Hansen; brothers-in-law, Merlin Hansen and Jim Hansen; and sisters-in-law, Janice Schilling and Darlene Johnson.

Memorial services for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Efflandt will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW and American Legion Honor Guard. Friends may greet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
