Peter R. Koenigs, 67, of Meyer, Iowa, died at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.

Peter Roman Koenigs was born on March 7, 1949, in Osage, Iowa, to Joseph and Julia (May) Koenigs. He was baptized at the Sacred Heart Church in Meyer, where he was a lifelong member. Pete graduated from Marion High School in Stacyville, Iowa, and attended the Agriculture School at Iowa State University in Ames. He served in the U.S. Army for two years. After his tour of duty, Pete returned to Meyer to take over the family farm, which is now a century farm. He loved farming. Pete also enjoyed tractor pulls and playing cards. He was thankful for his many friends and the time he was able to spend with them and was a favorite uncle of his nieces and nephews.

Pete is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bruce Eggenberger, Rochester, Minnesota, Dorothy Koenigs, Rochester; brother-in-law, Roger Tripp, Coon Rapids, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Sheryl Holmgren, Balsam Lake, Wisconsin; nine nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Julia Koenigs; sisters, Trudy Holmgren and Norma Tripp; brother, Herman Koenigs; and brother-in-law, Carl Holmgren.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, at the Sacred Heart Oratory, Meyer, with Father Swaminatha Pothireddy officiating. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Meyer with Adams American Legion Post 146 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Sacred Heart Oratory and for one hour before the service on Monday morning.

Memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Meyer or to the donor’s choice.
