Joyce Ann (Graff) Smith, 83, of Austin, Minnesota died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin, Minnesota.

She was born Nov. 9, 1933, in Austin to Richard and Violet (Sistek) Graff. She grew up in Austin, where she graduated from Austin high school in 1951.

On Sept. 7, 1952, she married Ed Smith in Austin. The couple lived in Austin their entire lives. Together they raised two sons. Larry Smith who worked at Gerard academy and Rick Smith currently of New Prague, Minnesota.

Early on Joyce worked at Diamond dollar. Later she worked at the Ellis middle school cafeteria for 17 years.

Joyce enjoyed camping, cooking, baking, playing cards and going out to eat with her friends. She loved visiting with and helping her many friends and neighbors. Even in her later years as her health was waning, she was always willing help anyone in need.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Smith of Austin; son, Rick Smith of New Prague; eight nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Larry; her parents, Richard and Violet Graff; sister, Darlene (Graff) Smith; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday Feb 21, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Jeff Forbes officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior starting at 10 a.m. The family will also greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
