Harold D. Roy, 93

Harold D. Roy, 93, passed away on Feb.19, 2017, at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital after battling a serious illness.

Harold was born on May 2, 1923, to Charles and Harriet (Burton) Roy in Norfolk, Nebraska. Harold served as a U.S. Army paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during World War II. During his service, he participated in several combat actions including parachuting into France for D-Day, and again into Holland as part of Operation Market Garden. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge. In June of 1945 he was a member of General Eisenhower’s honor guard. Throughout the course of his service, he was promoted to sergeant and was awarded several medals and honors, including the Bronze Star, Combat Infantrymen’s badge, Dutch orange lanyard, and the French Legion of Honor medal.

He is survived by his sisters, Peggy, Janey, Carol and Patty; his brothers, John and Jim; his children Judy (Don) Lankton, Linda (Dick) Rouhoff, Sally (Bob) Asper, Clarissa (Einer) Borchers and Deborah Roy; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Harriet; his sister, Waunita; and his brothers, Donald, Oliver (Buddy) and Ted.

Services are to be held at 11 a.m. on March 2, 2017, at the Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 14850 Garrett Ave. in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery follow the services.

He will be missed.
