Going to extremes for a cure; Tim Cloyd took extreme balloon flight on Sunday

Tim Cloyd decided Feb. 5 was the perfect day for a hot air balloon ride.
“I had to go south to find the sun; but after that, it was beautiful,” he said.
Cloyd was referring to the extreme flight he took, as a fundraiser for Paint the Town Pink.

There are reasons they call it “Extreme Flight to Find a Cure.” It was high and it was cold.
Cloyd reached a height of 16,310 feet above the earth, going as fast as 68 mph, he said.
For a donation, he agreed to fly above the earth, reciting names of loved ones who had dealt with cancer. In his “Lifting Up a Loved One” portion of the flight, he read 59 names, he said.
Cloyd intended to begin his flight in Indianola, Iowa, but did not like the cloudy weather. He headed south and finally began the flight in Bethany, Missouri.
His air temperature in the basket was in the mid-20s, he said, but when he reached the highest altitude, the temperature was zero.

Funds continue to come in. To date, about $2,400 has been raised.
“That is pretty common for the first time people have heard about it,” he said. “It takes a while a catch on.”
