GRAND MEADOW — The Superlarks had a quality first half, but they couldn’t keep up with Winona Cotter in the second half as they lost 70-48 in GM Monday.

GM (14-7 overall) led 12-11 early on after Kaitlyn Hilton scored and it trailed by just five points at halftime, but the Ramblers (14-8 overall) opened the second half on a 18-2 run over a nine-minute stretch to put the game away.

“I thought in the first half we battled and played hard. In the second half we got a little tired and our youth showed a little bit,” GM head coach Ryan Queensland said. “It’s a big measuring stick game. Pat [Bowlin] does a great job with them. We don’t have a deep bench to start with and then we lose Bell for a few games. It’s also an opportunity for other players to step up. Towards the end of the season we’re going to need everyone.”

GM showed the ability to come back in the first half as it trailed 24-15, but was able to battle back to within 32-29. Freshman Riley Queensland led the Superlarks with 20 points and sophomore Jordyn Glynn had nine points and three assists.

Gabby Bowlin poured in 29 points for Cotter.

Ryan said that the Superlarks will be better prepared for the postseason after Monday’s game.

“It shows the girls what they need to work on,” he said. “This is the speed and physicality you’re going to see in sections and subsections. I was very proud of our girls, especially in the first half. We’ll learn from this.”
