The Austin Bruins will play their annual ‘Paint the Rink Pink’ game against the Coulee Region Chill at Riverside Arena 7:05 p.m. Friday. The event has raised nearly $200,000 for the Hormel Institute’s cancer research over its first six seasons, including a record $41,579 last year.
The festivities will begin with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and a happy hour from then until 7 p.m. with $3 tap beers. Throughout the game, a special cancer tribute video will air and representatives from the Hormel Institute will speak. Local musician Kaye Perry will perform the anthem and Paint the Town Pink Ambassador Debbie Retterath will drop the puck.
There will be a 50-50 raffle during the game and Paint the Rink Pink T-Shirts for sale — proceeds from both benefiting the Hormel Institute.
The big event comes after the game with the annual live charity auction. All player jerseys (specialty pink and black themed) plus autographed items from Bruins alumni will go up for bidding. Alumni items include team autographed sticks from the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (Luke Notermann and Nick Lehr), Minnesota State-Mankato (Ian Scheid and Jason Pawloski), and signed jerseys from the University of Minnesota-Duluth (Jade Miller) and University of Massachusetts-Lowell. Tickets are available at the Bruins vendors: Hy-vee, Jim’s Marketplace, Games People Play, and the Holiday Inn at the discounted rate of $11 per adult and $8 per student and senior. The Bruins recommend fans buy their tickets as early as possible as they anticipate a sellout crowd.
