Milo L. Sorenson, 86

Milo L. Sorenson, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at St. Mark’s Living in Austin.

Milo Luverne Sorenson was born Sept. 3, 1930, in Austin, the son of Ben and Ida (Anderson) Sorenson. While in high school, Milo played football and basketball. He graduated from Austin High School and served in the U.S. Army.

He returned to Austin and worked at Hormel Foods until his retirement. Milo married Alberta Jean Rugg on Jan. 29, 1955, at the First United Methodist Church in Austin.

Milo was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Milo enjoyed fishing, taking a number of trips to northern Minnesota and Canada. He and Alberta liked to go dancing, playing cards and camping. In retirement, they traveled in their motor home, spending winters in Florida and along the gulf coast into Mississippi. Milo was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching sporting events on television.

Milo is survived by his wife, Alberta Sorenson, Austin; sister, Ilene King, Austin; brother and sisters-in-law, Almon and Pat Sorenson, Adams, Minnesota and Linda Sorenson, Charles City, Iowa; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wilma Sheeley, Dover, Minnesota, Phillip and Marlys Rugg, Rochester, Minnesota, Jay and Elaine Rugg, Whitman, Arizona, and Paul and Jean Rugg, Wanamingo, Minnesota; nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil Sorenson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at Grace Lutheran Church, 2001 Sixth Avenue SE, with the Rev. Jeffrey Forbes officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with Olaf B. Damm Post 1216 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Austin Post 91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Friday and at the church on Saturday morning for one hour before the service. There will be no reviewal.

Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
