The Austin girls basketball team came up with a huge play to force an extra session, but it couldn’t close the deal as it lost 64-60 to Mankato East (4-12 overall, 4-8 Big Nine) on the road Monday.
Freshman Colie Justice scored 23 points and she hit a half court shot at the buzzer of regulation to force OT for the Packers (7-8 overall, 6-6 Big Nine).
The Packers had led 21-16 at the half, but it was highly contested game down the stretch.
“It was a battle to the end,” Austin head coach Anna Meyer said. “The girls played super hard, we just had too many turnovers. We need to take care of the ball every time we have it.”
Abby Lewis had 10 points and five assists and Amber Hansen had seven points and 15 rebounds for Austin.
Austin scoring: Colie Justice, 23; Lewis, 10; Amber Hansen, 7; Emily Hegna, 5; Rebecca Younis, 4; Awenia Nyewsh, 4; KieJuana VanZant, 4; Elyse Hebrink, 3; free throws: 6o percent (6-for-10)
