Steven “Scooby” Goodew, 62

Steven “Scooby” Goodew, 62, of Austin, Minnesota, died at his home on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016.

Steven Allen Goodew was born Nov. 3, 1954, in Austin, the son of Lawrence and Stella (Christensen) Goodew. He attended Austin High School and served in the US Army. He married Debra Thompson on Jan. 7, 1984, in Austin. Scooby worked as a carpenter in commercial construction in the Minneapolis, Rochester and Austin areas until he retired.

Steve was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He loved “the river” and spending time boating and working on their home in the Wabasha area. Scooby loved watching his son Luke play sports and his musical performances. In his retirement, Scooby enjoyed being a handyman, helping others repair things and socializing with local residents. He liked to watch old cowboy shows and westerns.

Scooby is survived by his wife, Deb Goodew, Austin; son, Luke Goodew, Austin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julie and Mike Pratt, Austin, Marilyn and Mike Toogood, Greenville, South Carolina; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Heide Mellum, Okeechobee, Florida; mother-in-law,  Sylvia Goodwin, Austin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kim and Mark Corkill, Austin, Brad Thompson and Liz Thissen, Austin, Jeff and Ella Thompson, Littleton, Colorado; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Stella Goodew.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Austin Post 91 American Legion in charge of military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday.
