Shirley E. Orth, 85

Shirley E. Orth, 85, of Byron, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester.

Shirley Elaine Felty was born Jan. 23, 1931, in Waltham Township, the daughter of Vernon and Helen (Benike) Felty. She graduated from Austin High School in 1949. Shirley received her nursing degree after attending the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester and Austin Community College. After graduation, Shirley worked at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester and in St. Olaf Hospital OB and Pediatrics in Austin for many years. On Jan. 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to David Orth at the First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, Minnesota, where the couple lived until 1958 before moving to Austin, and then to Byron in 2009. David died on July 14, 2011. Shirley was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, First Baptist Church in Austin, and Grace Baptist Church in Austin where she taught Sunday school. Shirley was a very faithful and prayerful woman and was active in her church. She loved to sew, tend to her flower garden, read, study genealogy, and spend time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Shirley will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Jeffery Orth of Rochester, Gregory (Kira) Orth of Byron, Rodney (Gina) Orth, also of Byron, Sherilyn (Steve) Bahnemann of Rochester, Thomas (Pratheba) Orth of Beaverton, Oregon, Tammy (Troy) Watkins of Austin; 17 grandchildren, Jeremy, Katie, Jonathan (Amberleigh), James, Kari, and Joshua Orth; Jared and Sarah Orth; Michelle (Mike) Williams, Jennelle (Anthony) Guanzon, Danielle (Glen) Kranz, Matthew (Becky) Bahnemann, Brandon Bahnemann; Daivik and Milana Orth; Tara and Tori Watkins; 5 great-grandchildren, Mysti, Cooper and Mikey Williams Jr., Aurora and Alivia Guanzon; her brother Frank (Lois) Felty of Coon Rapids, sister-in-law Cornelia Felty of Champlin; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Orth, her grandson Joel Orth, her daughter-in-law Kathy Orth, her brothers Mervin and Sidney Felty, and sister-in-law Lillian Felty.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Brownsdale with Rev. Kent Petzold officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church in Brownsdale, or recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
