Janet Adorance Hanson, age 73, of LeRoy, Minnesota, died Monday Dec. 12, 2016, in Red Wing, Minnesota.
Jan was born Sept. 24, 1943, in Hendricks, Minnesota, to Harry and Claryce ( Forbord) Hetager. She attended and graduated from Hendricks High School and continued her education at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in home economics education. In 1965 she started teaching in LeRoy where she met her future husband, Norman Hanson. On Aug. 13, 1966, they were united in marriage in Hendricks. Jan taught at LeRoy until 1970 when her first child was born. At that time she started her child care business which she was involved with until 2000. Two of Jan’s passions in life were taking care of children, which she did for 30 years, and sewing. She pursued her passion for sewing while working at the fabric store at Walmart where she worked from 2000 – 2008. She was able to sew many beautiful quilts over the years, many of which she was able to donate to organizations for fundraisers.
Jan was a member of the LeRoy Lions Club where she was recently nominated for Volunteer of the Year, she was a member of the Red Cross, Library Board, Historical Society and served as a 4-H leader. She was also active in the History Club, Garden Club, Pleasure Club and several card clubs. She also enjoyed baking and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Jan was a member of LeRoy Lutheran Church where she was active as a Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher, served on the council and sang in its choir.
She is survived by her husband Norm Hanson of LeRoy, children; Keith (Amy) Hanson of St Peter, Minnesota, Beth Hanson of Red Wing and Jeff (Shannon) Hanson of Red Wing; eight grandchildren, Taylour, Samm and Rhys Hanson of St. Peter, Clare and Marin Zadra of Red Wing, and Tyler, Josh and Riley Hanson of Red Wing; one brother John (Nancy) Hetager of Kansas and; one sister, Dorothy Brown of Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services for Jan Hanson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at LeRoy Lutheran Church in Le Roy with the Rev Herman Bakker officiating. Burial will take place in the Le Roy Lutheran Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
