The No. 7 ranked Austin boys basketball team passed a big test with flying colors as it took down Caledonia, which is ranked No. 1 in Class AA, by a score of 85-71 on the road Wednesday.

The Packers (5-0 overall) shot the lights out as they shot 61 percent (14-for-23) on three-pointers in the win. Both Gach, who had 19 points and seven rebounds, hit back-to-back three-pointers to get Austin going in the second half and Tate Hebrink, who had 13 points, hit a three-pointer to put the Packers up 50-42 and they controlled the game from that point on.

The Warriors (5-1 overall) didn’t bow out quietly as they piled on their fair share of three-pointers as well. Noah King had 26 points for Caledonia and Owen King had 23 points.

“I thought we played really well defensively, they just played really well offensively,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said.

Duoth Gach had 24 points and eight assists for Austin.
