Thankful for mom and dad — and Wiggle Fin; Woodson celebrates Thanksgiving

It took kindergartener Lucy Anderson, 5, just a beat to answer this question on Tuesday:

“Lucy: Can you tell us what you are thankful for?”

“My dog, Bailey … and my fish. Wiggle Fin.”

That wasn’t all the kindergarteners at Woodson Kindergarten Center in Austin were thankful for on Tuesday, the day before being dismissed for Thanksgiving vacation. There was plenty of enthusiasm for their annual Thanksgiving feast. Outfitted in Native American and pilgrim dress, about 400 students sat in the main hallway, chowing down on popcorn, cornbread and apple juice.

Beckett Keist, 5, confided just before the meal that Thanksgiving was all about the turkey.

“And it’s a holiday,” he added.

Classmate Charlie Thomas, 5, agreed with that, but added he was thankful for other things, too.

“I am thankful for my dad and I am thankful for my mom,” he said.
