Muriel H. Dahl, 97 of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Muriel was born Sept. 27, 1909, at Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Effie (Thompson) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School. Muriel married Arthur J. Dahl on Feb. 8, 1945, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. For 34 years, Muriel worked as a night cook in the cafeteria at the Geo. A. Hormel Co. Austin plant.

Muriel was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was active in Circle and WELCA. She worked with the Helping Hands and served as the reception coordinator for weddings and other receptions at the church. She was also an active member of the Sons of Norway. Muriel enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening. In her younger years, she liked going to auctions and was an avid bargain shopper.

Muriel is survived by her daughter, Mary Dahl and Joel Huinker, Austin, MN; grandson, Zeke Dahl, Austin; Diamond Overby, who was like a granddaughter to Muriel over the years; sister, Virginia Davis, Clarks Grove, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Effie Peterson; husband, Arthur; a son, Galyn Dahl; brothers, Dale and Donald Peterson; sisters, Bertha Everson and Esther Peters; and infant sister and brother, Phyllis and Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Mark Niethammer officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church for one hour before the service on Friday morning. The family prefers memorials.
