Katharine P. Borgesen, 83

Katharine Patricia Borgesen, age 83 of Austin, Minnesota died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at her home.

Katharine P. Tompkins was born June 6, 1933 in Dodge Center, Minnesota, the daughter of Leon and Florence (Jensen) Tompkins. She attended rural school before graduating from Mantorville High School in 1951.

Katharine worked as a lab tech until 1957, when she married Stanley Borgesen on Aug. 17, 1957 in Rochester, Minnesota. The couple moved to Austin, where they lived their entire married life. They raised three sons, and had a daughter Karin who died in infancy.

In 1972, Katharine returned to school, attending Austin Community College where she studied nursing. After her 1974 graduation, she worked at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester until her retirement Dec. 30, 1994. Katharine was an avid reader, and she liked to collect things. She was especially interested in antiques and family heirlooms. She also liked to quilt, and simply enjoyed life, outdoors, birds, and nature. Katharine was a member of the First Congregational Church in Austin, and she was very devoted to her mother.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her sons Craig Borgesen and Trent Borgesen, both of Austina, Erik Borgesen of Seattle, Washington; two grandchildren Lindsay and Katie, five great-grandchildren. Katharine was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Florence Tompkins, her husband Stanley Borgesen, one brother, and her daughter in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at the First Congregational Church UCC in Austin with Pastor Shari Mason officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Mantorville. Memorials can be directed to the First Congregational Church or recipient of donor’s choice.
