Janis M. Beckel, 87, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016.

Janis was born Dec. 1, 1928, in Spring Valley, Minnesota, to Floyd M. and Edith “Elinor” (Sample) Farnsworth. She grew up in Austin and married John Beckel Jr. on Jan. 7, 1950. They lived in Austin until 1971 when they moved to Baudette, Minnesota, where they entered into the resort business with the Beckel family.

She is survived by her husband, John Beckel Jr. of Baudette; four children, Susan Sathre (Thomas Fielding) of Austin, Debra (Peter) D’Souza of Rochester, Minnesota, and Christine (Russel) Hansen of Baudette and Thomas (Joyce) Beckel, Baudette; brother, James Steven (Anglia) Farnsworth of Gwinn, Michigan. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Steven, Sarah, Jennifer, William, Michael, Marinda, Elaina, Katie and Kevin; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elinor Farnsworth of Austin.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at First Lutheran Church in Baudette.
