Hormel announces Hormel Heroes scholarship recipients

Hormel Foods Corp. announced Friday the recipients of it’s $10,000 2016 Hormel Heroes Scholarships.

The recipients this year are Stephanie Brown and Carly Cooper.

“Hormel Foods has a long history of supporting the military,” said Jeff Baker, group vice president of foodservice, Hormel Foods., in a press release. “From producing Spam products to help feed allied troops during World War II, to producing products for the military today and providing employment opportunities for veterans, we are inspired by those who serve or have served our country. We are proud to provide these scholarships to help these veterans foster their careers in the foodservice industry.”

Brown was in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years and is pursuing a degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University. She would like to run her own food-related business after she graduates.

Cooper was in the U.S. Air Force for two years and is pursuing a degree in culinary arts from The Culinary Institute of America. She would like to run a small restaurant after she graduates.

“The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation has a long-standing partnership with the military and is proud to recognize excellence in its past and present members,” said Rob Gifford, executive vice president, NRAEF, in that same press release. “We’re so thankful that Hormel Foods has made this scholarship possible and wish the recipients the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
