The Hayfield volleyball team ended its season one win away from getting to its first ever state tournament after it lost to Caledonia (27-5 overall) by scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14 in the Section 1A title match in Mayo Civic Center in Rochester Saturday.
Carrie Rutledge had 16 kills for the Vikings (25-5 overall), who battled hard in the first three sets and even led the third set 11-3 before bowing out.
“It was a great season, we just fell a little short at the end,” Hayfield head coach Jeremy Struck said. “Volleyball is a game of momentum and in this match there were big swings. We didn’t execute at all levels consistently. Caledonia is a very strong team and they were able to finish when it mattered most.”
