Bruins blast Magicians 4-1

The Austin Bruins came back from a weekend of tough losses to bounce back and put forth a solid all around effort in a 4-1 win over the Minnesota Magicians (13-7-2 overall) in Riverside Arena Friday.
The Magicians took an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal just three minutes into the game, but Evan Cholak scored the first of his two goals to tie the game up and Travis Kothenbeutel scored on a breakaway to make it a 2-1 game with 4:16 left in the first period. Austin had lost two games in OT last weekend.
“Last week I thought we played well enough to win those games,” Austin head coach Kyle Grabowski said. “Obviously it was disappointing, but right now we’ve got eight out of the last possible 10 points and that’s pretty good. We’re climbing in the standings.”
The Bruins (8-7-2 overall) stayed aggressive even after they took the lead as Michael Piehler scored on a tip in and Cholak scored his fifth goal of the year to make it 4-1 in the second period.
“We worked hard this week and it showed up,” Cholak said. “We’re happy with it. I think everyone is having fun and it’s fun to score goals. It was a good team win.”
Alex Schilling had 19 saves in net for Austin.
Grabowski said Friday’s win showed how explosive the Bruins can be when they get going.
“It’s such a momentum game and we’re a big time momentum team,” he said. “When the train gets rolling, we’re tough to stop.”
