Alumni Update: Gach off to a fast start

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Austin grad Gach Gach is starting his second and final season on at North Dakota State College of Science high note as his team is he poured in 28 points and went 6-for-12 on 3-pointers to go alone with 7 rebounds and 2 steals in a 101-58 win over Minnesota State-Fergus Falls.

On the season, Gach is averaging 24 points and 7 rebounds, while shooting 46.2 on 3-pointers for NDSCS (3-0 overall).

Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase both played in an exhibition game in Iowa State, as the University of Sioux Falls lost 101-57 to the Cyclones recently.

Wessels had 4 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds for the Cougars and Aase grabbed two rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Grand Meadow grad Rio Landers is making some early waves in her first year at Dordt College (2-1 overall) as she had 14 points and 6 rebounds in a 92-55 win over Waldorf University Nov. 8.

Landers has started all three games and she’s averaging 6.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.

Southland grad Jana Schammel scored 11 points to go with five assists for John Brown University, which is located in Siloam Springs, Ark., in a 110-37 win over Ecclesia.

Schammel is averaging 6.5 points. while shooting 66 percent in 2 games.

FOOTBALL

Austin grad Connor Sheehan has played 9 of 10 games for Northern State University (6-4 overall) and he has a total of 20 tackles, 1 interception and 1 TD.

Grand Meadow grad Caleb Leichtnam had 7 tackles, a fumble forced and a pass defensed as Southwest Minnesota State University lost 42-27 to Winona State University Nov. 5.

With just one game left in the season for the Mustangs (5-5 overall), Leichtnam has 61 tackles, 2 interceptions and 9 passes defensed.

Blooming Prairie grad Scott Romeo has played in 3 games and tallied 4 tackles and broken up one pass for St. Cloud State University (5-5 overall).

VOLLEYBALL

Austin grad Kelsey Sederquest finished her first season at Waldorf University (17-22 overall) with 204 digs for the Warriors.

Hayfield grad Savanna Cordle had 4 kills on the season for Waldorf.

CROSS COUNTRY

Austin grad McKenzie Besel finished what was most likely her final college cross country meet as she took 179th place with a time of 25:19 at the NCAA Central Region Championships in Sioux Falls, S.D. recently.
