ST. PAUL — A Donald Trump-inspired mural on the University of Minnesota campus has created a controversy.

The university’s College Republicans group painted “Build The Wall” on a campus bridge last week. Student groups paint signs and messages on the Washington Avenue pedestrian bridge every fall.

But the mural was soon defaced, covered by the words “Stop White Supremacy.” Other protesters who weren’t involved in the vandalism say the original message was anti-immigrant hate speech.

The chairman of Minnesota’s Republican Party and College Republican officials were expected to address the incident Tuesday.

University president Eric Kaler has said that while the College Republican message may have been offensive, it should not have been vandalized.
