Norman K. Flugum, 91

Norman K. Flugum, 91, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Austin.

Norman Keith Flugum was born Sept. 5, 1925, at Pearl City, Hawaii, the son of Omar and Annie (Beck) Flugum, who were Congregational ministers.  After high school, Norm played baseball at Iowa State where he attended college; he also played hockey and table tennis.

Norman was married to Nancy Jean Berglund on Nov.8, 1952, at the Trinity Methodist Church in Minneapolis. The Flugums made their home in Minnesota and Norman worked as a salesman in the Insurance Industry. He had a wonderful marriage and family and enjoyed his hobbies of motorcycles and flying planes.

Following Nancy’s death Norm remained in Austin, living at Reflections Assisted Living, St. Marks Lutheran Home and more recently at the Adams Health Care Center.  As his son said, “He was a great dad, loved by many and the best salesman”.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, in 1992; his parents; and a brother, Richard. He is survived by his son, Dave Flugum; grandson; Jordan Flugum; special friend, Mary; nephew Eric Flugum; and cousins, Robert Casperson and Mike Casperson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Shari Mason officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.
