Douglas Carl Winters, 62

Douglas Carl Winters, 62, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at his home in Austin, Minnesota.

He was born Feb. 2, 1954, in Austin to Carl Winters and Helen (Schroeder) Winters. He attended Austin High School. Doug worked for Quality Pork for 25 years and retired in 2014.

On July 10, 1979, he was united in marriage to Audrey Lynn Olson in Minneapolis. Doug was an avid car enthusiast and got his start after high school by driving his own stock car at the local tracks, and then becoming a member of Mike Guttormson’s pit crew. Doug turned his fondness of cars to old hot rods by belonging to The Drifters of Rochester, and The Old Car Co. Doug was also a lifelong member of MSRA and The Good Guys. Doug loved attending many other local and out-of-state car shows and swap meets. Doug enjoyed the road trips that he and Audrey Lynn took with their friends over the past few years.

Twelve years ago, Doug and Audrey Lynn built the home of their dreams, and with Doug’s craftsmanship skills he completely designed and finished the entire lower level of their home, decorating it with his love of cars and Audrey Lynn’s love of antiques.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Audrey Lynn Winters of Austin; his sister, Donna Krebsbach of Sparta, Wisconsin; six nieces and nephews, Sue (Phil) Sanvick, Elizabeth (Joe) Newell, Tim Krebsbach, Mark (Sharon) Krebsbach, Mike (Mary Beth) Krebsbach and Lisa (Tom) Strawn; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Carl Winters; brother, Roger Winters; and, brother-in-law, Roger Krebsbach.

A celebrations of life/benefit will take place at the Austin Eagles from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016.
