Charles Sidney ‘Charlie’ Conway, 86

Charles Sidney “Charlie” Conway, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at his home.

He was born Aug. 25, 1930, in Pleasant Valley Township, Minnesota, the son of Howard and Inga (Johnson) Conway. Following his 1948 graduation from Austin High School, Charlie enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until 1952. On Jan, 5, 1952, Charlie married Nellie Baker in Fort Meade, MD. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business.

Charlie made his living as a foreman for Hormel Foods Corporation, retiring in 1991. Nellie passed away Feb. 25, 2015. Since 1987, the Conways spent a lot of time on Lake Winnibigoshish near Bena, Minnesota. Charlie loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed all kinds of flowers and liked to garden and refinish guns. Charlie had very caring neighbors that meant a lot to him. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.

Charlie is survived by his children, Mark Conway and John (Catherine) Conway, both of Austin, Mary Taylor of Minneapolis, David Conway (Victoria McCurdy) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Michael (Lisa) Conway of Austin, and Bill (Susan) Conway, also of Austin; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Cashman of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Inga Conway; his wife, Nellie Conway; his son-in-law, Tom Taylor; and his brother-in-law, Richard Cashman.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 22, 2016, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Todd Portinga, A.I.M., officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military honors by American Legion Post 91. Memorials can be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
