An Austin teen was cited for fourth-degree damage to property Monday after being caught red handed.

At about 1:30 p.m., a witness reported seeing a teen spray painting the sidewalk along Mill Pond before following him to Austin Public Library and calling the police, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Police responded to the library and found a teen matching the suspect’s description with a can of red spray paint at his feet.

He admitted to spray painting “Riru” and “LA” below it.

City officials estimated $300 in damages. The teen was transported and turned over to a guardian.

Krueger said the spray paint style did not match a string of vandalism reported earlier this year that included the words “Lit Fox” and “Little Fox.”
