Rebels can’t keep pace with Goodhue football team

The Southland football team saw momentum disappear just as quickly as it had grabbed it in a 33-7 loss at Goodhue Friday.

The Rebels pulled within 14-7 early in the second half when Carl Mueller threw a six-yard TD pass to Jared Landherr, but the Wildcats (3-1 overall) responded by returning the ensuing kick-off back for a TD.

The Rebels have now lost back-to-back games to teams that are ranked in the top 10 and Southland’s next two games will also be against elite opponents. Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said he wants his team to see how good they can play, like they did in spurts against Goodhue.

“These kids have to believe sooner or later or its going to be a long season,” Kennedy said. “We have to start fighting and quit being satisfied with the status quo.”
