Orinne Jeanette Nagel, 86

Orinne Jeanette Nagel, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Orinne was born in Douglas, Minnesota, on April 26, 1930. She was the oldest of 5 children and attended Olmsted Country School and graduated from Rochester High School. After graduation, she worked at Weber-Judd and later at Mayo Clinic in the laboratory. She then met the love of her life and her honey bunny, Robert Nagel, and began a life together in Austin. They raised three children, James, Brenda, and Lori.

Orinne was an active member at the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She also enjoyed connecting with the community with bowling, bridge clubs, and homemakers club. Her hobbies included knitting, cooking & baking, cross-stitching, and flower gardening.

Orinne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her husband, Robert Nagel, and selflessly encouraged him to pursue his art passion. She was instrumental in launching his art career and bringing his talents into the world. She was also a dedicated mother who supported her three guiding light for her entire family. She will be dearly missed.

Orinne’s kind and warm personality led her to work at the Mower County Senior Center as a receptionist for nearly 20 years. She approached her job there with enthusiasm and took great interest in serving everyone who passed through the doors. She worked past her 86th birthday.

Orinne was preceded in death by her parents, Vivian and Carl Elford of Rochester, Minnesota, and her husband, Robert G. Nagel of Austin, Minnesota, brothers, Wesley & Donald Elford.

She is survived by son, James Nagel (Jan), North Richland Hills, Texas; daughters, Brenda Sterner (Brent Darling), Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Lori Nagel (Tim Herbst), Rosemount, Minnesota; grandchildren June, Meeseon, Nathan, Jeanette, Joleen, Julie and Natalie; great-grandchildren, Mariah and Cadance; sisters, Doris Larson (William), Rochester, Minnesota, Evelyn Herbst (Robert), Annandale, Virgina, and sisters-in-law, Betty Gillson and Phyllis Lastine (Gaylen), Austin, Minnesota; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in Austin, Minnesota, with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and at the church on Thursday for one hour preceding the funeral. Memorials may be designated to the First United Methodist Church and the Mower County Senior Center.
