FARIBAULT — A man who had been behind bars for 11 years for a murder he says he didn’t commit has been released from an eastern Minnesota prison.

The Star Tribune reports 57-year-old Terry Lynn Olson was released from the facility in Faribault on Tuesday after a Wright County judge resentenced him to time served under a deal with the sheriff’s office.

In 2007, Olson was convicted and sentenced to 17 years in prison for the August 1979 death of Jeffrey Hammill.

The Minnesota Innocence Project became involved after another man convicted in Hammill’s death wrote to the judge, saying he lied during his testimony which implicated Olson.

Olson says he’d hoped to have his conviction overturned but he accepted the deal in order to help his sick mother.
