Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a Fairmont man who escaped from custody earlier this month while in Rochester for medical treatment.

Levi Troy Dahl, 21, was reportedly arrested in the Los Angeles area, according to Freeborn County Sheriff Kurt Freitag. Freitag did not have details readily available about what led to the arrest.

Dahl reportedly escaped from custody after he severed his ankle bracelet Sept. 16 after being released from the Freeborn County jail for surgery on a broken leg in Rochester. He was ordered to abide by GPS monitoring, house arrest and daily reporting as monitored by court services.

Dahl reportedly left Mayo Clinic before surgery was completed, and the GPS bracelet was found cut at a Rochester Walmart. He had been in the Freeborn County jail initially for reportedly leading police on a chase that reached speeds of more than 60 earlier this month.

He pleaded not guilty to charges tied to that incident. Freitag said Friday the Sheriff’s Office will retrieve Dahl from California.

In addition to charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and one count of reckless driving tied to the chase, Dahl will likely be charged with escape from custody.
