Jurine Ruth Gerber, 93

Jurine Ruth Gerber, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday evening, Sept. 3, 2016, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, Minnesota.

Jurine was born in Austin, Minnesota, on April 29, 1923, the daughter of Howard and Ella (Williamson) Johnson. Jurine was married to Arthur W. Gerber on April 23, 1946, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. They celebrated more than 66 years of marriage.

Jurine worked at Hormel Foods for 30 years. After retiring in 1981 she became involved with cross-stich, Hardanger embroidery, and a deep passion for quilting blossomed. She was a member of the KeepSake Quilters Guild of Austin and thoroughly enjoyed the time with her quilting friends. She submitted many projects to the Mower County Fair and the Minnesota Quilters Guild, earning many blue and grand champion ribbons for her beautiful work.

Jurine loved dancing with Arthur on weekends, photography, traveling, baking delicious goodies and cooking excellent meals. But what she thoroughly enjoyed the most was spending time with her family.

The traditional Norwegian meal of lutefisk and lefse dinners, baking Norwegian sweets and delicacies during the Christmas season was a passion she shared with all. This seasonal feast is still a cherished family tradition enjoyed by her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are sons Daryl (Linda), Silver Bay, Minnesota, and Dale, Golden Valley, Minnesota; daughter Sharlyn Hall, Greenfield, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Rachelle Gerber, Sarah Stewart, Jacob Gerber and Cassidy Hall; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister Phyllis Turvold, Beloit, Illinois; sister-in-law Rosemary Johnson, Austin, Minnesota; brother-in-law Jerome (Darlene) Gerber, Adams, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.

Jurine was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; her parents; son Sheldon; brother Dean Johnson, sisters Elvira Johnson, Arleen Reed and Cleone Johnson; son-in-law Geoffrey S. Gerber-Marshall; brother-in-law’s Raymond, Robert and Lawrence Gerber; sister-in-law’s Serelda Kramer and Florence Fasbender.

A celebration of Jurine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Raul Silva officiating.

A wake will also be held Sept. 8, 2016, at Mayer Funeral Home. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Rosary will start at 4 p.m. and a prayer service will start at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to church services at 10 a.m. Friday.
