Judge orders parts of Minneapolis metal shredder shut down

MINNEAPOLIS — A judge has ordered key parts of a Minneapolis metal shredding facility to shut down because of pollution concerns.

The order bars Northern Metals Recycling from restarting the affected operations until the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency either issues a modified air permit, or until the company proves that the operations don’t contribute to air quality violations along the Mississippi River in north Minneapolis.

The Star Tribune reports that Ramsey County District Judge John Guthmann issued the order Monday after the MPCA asked the court for an injunction earlier this summer.
