Get to know: Tressie Kinney, Austin cheerleader

Tressie Kinney is a senior cheerleader for the Austin Packers.

Q: What sports do you play?

A: I am captain of the varsity football cheer team, I also dance on varsity Austin Packer Dance Team, and I have danced with Just For Kix since I was three years old.

Q: How did you originally get into cheerleading?

A: I saw signs around school in eighth grade and I thought it would be so much fun to be a cheerleader!

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory has to be last February at the state dance team tournament when we got off the floor of finals how amazing we all felt. We knew we had just done the best performance of our lives, and even though we didn’t place as high as we had hoped, it was still an amazing moment for my team and I.

Q: What have you learned from cheerleading?

A: I have learned the value of trusting my teammates while stunting and how fun and essential it is to keep the crowd pumped up at any sporting event.

Q: What is the hardest part about cheerleading?

A: The hardest part about cheerleading is either memorizing our 70 plus cheers and performing them perfectly every single time in front of the entire school and parent fan-base and perfecting our tricky stunts!

Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?

A: I look up more to entire teams as a whole like the University of Minnesota dance team.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: I love watching Criminal Minds.

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: Science!

Q: What is your dream job?

A: A prosthetic specialist.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Sushi, for sure.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: I plan to go to a four-year college.

Q: What’s a fun fact about you or hobby you enjoy that most people don’t know about?

A: Ha! I really enjoy popping pimples!

Q: What are your top three pump songs before a big game?

A: ‘All I Do is Win’ by DJ Khaled, ‘My House’ by Flo Rida, and ‘Sweatpants’ by Childish Gambino.

Q: What are your top three guilty pleasure songs?

A: Anything by the Jonas Brothers or Ke$ha!
