A 7-year-old boy came away with a few minor scrapes and bumps after being struck by a van Wednesday.

A 2001 Ford Windstar was driving north on the 300 block of 10th Street Southwest while the boy was riding his bike on the east at 5:46 p.m., according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

The driver and a passenger say they were going about 15 mph when the boy quickly darted from the sidewalk into the road. The driver slammed on the brakes but hit the child, knocking him to the ground.

Austin Gold Cross Ambulance checked out the boy on scene for scrapes and bumps, but he was released to his father.

No one was cited in the incident.
