Best Bets: Austin is welcoming autumn this weekend

The season is officially changing over as one summer activity gives way to a harvest celebration. While the Hormel Historic Home is winding down its series of summer Peace Garden concerts, Austin is set to welcome in autumn with a 5K and Harvest Fest on Saturday.
1. Peace Garden Concert – Jamie and Codie Acoustic
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hormel Historic Home
The Hormel Historic Home is winding down its summer music season with the first of two free concerts. This one features local group Jamie and Codie Acoustic. Cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be available at the Thursday and Friday Peace Garden shows. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, if you like. 2. Peace Garden Concert – Alonzo Steele
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hormel Historic Home
The second concert at the HHH will feature Alonzo Steele and music and song with a Caribbean flair. Free event. Cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be available. 3. Packer Football
7 p.m. Friday at Art Hass Stadium
The Austin Packer football team will try to break into the win column after an 0-2 start when the boys take on Rochester Mayo.
4. Third annual Harvest 5K
8 p.m. Saturday at the Austin Municipal Pool parking lot.
This annual 5K focuses on helping fill county food shelves to offer nutritious food as well as engaging participants in active living before holiday feasting. Sponsored by Mower ReFreshed and the YMCA of Austin. For more information, call 507-433-1804.
5. First annual downtown Harvest Fest
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in downtown Austin.
After the Harvest 5K at the pool parking lot, enjoy a wide array of activities and events taking place at various downtown locations. Fill out a Harvest Passport for prizes, go canoeing, can foods, do artwork, participate in interactive games, and more.
