Alumni Update: Austin’s Sheehan scores first TD for Northern State and Overby runs her first race at UND

FOOTBALL

Austin grad Conner Sheehan and Grand Meadow grad Caleb Leichtnam recently squared off on the football field at the Division II level. Sheehan plays defensive back for Northern State University, which beat Leichtnam’s Southwest Minnesota State University 51-35 Saturday.

Sheehan, a red-shirt freshman, made a huge play as he recovered a fumble and ran it back 48 yards for his first college touchdown to put Northern State up 31-21 in the third quarter. He finished with 6 tackles, 1 fumble forced, 1 fumble recovered and 1 pass defensed.

Leichtnam, a senior at SMSU, had eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and 2 passes defensed and Sheehan had six tackles, 1 fumble forced and 1 pass defensed.

On the season, Sheehan has 9 tackles and Leichtnam has 19 tackles.

VOLLEYBALL

Austin grad Kelsey Sederquest and Hayfield grad Savanna Cordle have both seen some early action for the Waldorf University volleyball team this season.

Sederquest has played in four matches and she has racked up 42 digs for the Warriors (6-9 overall), while Cordle has played in three matches and tallied 3 kills and 1 dig.

CROSS COUNTRY

Austin grad Madison Overby had a strong performance at the season opener for the University of North Dakota cross country team recently.

Overby took eighth place with a time of 15:08.5 for UND against South Dakota State University and North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. Sept. 9. Overby had the second best finish for the Fighting Hawks.
