Adeline ‘Lina’ Ojanpa, 91

Adeline “Lina” Ojanpa, 91, of Eveleth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at St. Michael’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Virginia.

She was born on April 13, 1925, in Eveleth, Minnesota to Joseph and Assunta (Amadori) Marcaccini. She graduated from Eveleth High School in 1943 and attended Eveleth Junior College. During this time, she worked for the family business, the Italian Bakery in Eveleth.

On Aug. 21, 1948, Lina was married to Verne Ojanpa, also of Eveleth. The couple then moved and made their home in Austin, Minnesota where they were both employed by the Austin Public Schools and raised their three children. Upon their retirements in 1981, they moved back to Eveleth and spent their remaining years at their home on Ely Lake. Throughout her married life, Lina was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake, sew and knit and was active in her church.

She is survived by her son, Brian (Kathy) Ojanpa of Mankato, Minnesota; daughters, Jane (Greg) Gilness of Virginia, Minnesota, and Mary (Chaz) Demm of St. Cloud, Minnesota; grandchildren, John Ojanpa, Jordann Ojanpa (Mark) Rylance, Siiri (Steve) Lah, Jim Gilness, Gina Demm and Nico Demm; great-grandchildren, Reese and Sam Rylance and Kamryn and Kyleigh Ojanpa; sister, Irene Marcaccini Long; brother, Lorenzo Marcaccini and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lina was preceded in death by her husband, Verne; brothers, Geno and Guido Marcaccini and sister, Joan Eaton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Visitation will be one hour before at the church.
