Taking in the king at the Orpheum

Published 1:06 pm Sunday, August 7, 2016

Our trip this past week was to the Historic Orpheum Theater in Minneapolis to attend the Broadway production of “The Lion King.”

It was as expected, a beautiful production with stunning visual effects. The show was a real delight to children as so many were in attendance. All were in awe the show as all the animals and creatures were making their way through the story. This theater and many more in our area bring New York-style entertainment right here to our area.

Plans are in order to see a variety of shows. The Church Basement Ladies at the Plymouth Playhouse will feature “Rise Up, O Men,” a new concept from the other CBL shows we have seen. The date for this trip is Oct. 20.

Branson, Missouri offers another variety of stage entertainment. We will be visiting there Nov. 16-20.

Danny O’Donnell, the popular Irish singer, will be on the schedule and we are also offering a Christmas show at that time as many followers have attended the O’Donnell show often.

However O’Donnell is taking an extended leave after this years short schedule.

The Million Dollar Quartet is also very popular and we have that show on our schedule. Also, to accommodate those who have already seen this show, we are offering another Branson show at that slot time.

“Moses” the Biblical production at the Sight and Sound Theater is an amazing production. It is one of the most unique productions there.

We also have two more shows added to this schedule, which include family favorites The Duttons and All Hands on Deck,  a patriotic show including a nine-piece band.

The Branson trip is not all about shows, as we have planned several tours and added a day and night in St Joseph, Missouri for some fun stuff.

A deposit is due by Sept. 15.

Our annual fall trip this year will take us to the southwest and the National Balloon Fest in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Oct. 4-12. Fee for that trip is due by Aug. 23.

The travel office will only be opened limited hours in the next two weeks. You may always reach the office by calling 507-438-3946.
